the story behind mrs fixit...
Mrs Fixit Tarp Repairs began with a simple idea, a sewing machine, and a bit of determination.
In 2018, founder Tracey Tennant purchased a heavy-duty leather sewing machine she'd always wanted. Not long after, her husband Frank, a truck driver, came home and asked, "That thing will sew truck tarps, won't it?"
Before long, Frank was bringing home tarps for Tracey to repair in their shed. One of her earliest jobs was sewing a leather steering wheel cover for an Argosy truck in the driveway. Word quickly spread, and after a few short months Tracey was offered a workshop on Fitzgerald Street in Portland.
The day the Mrs Fixit sign went up, the phone started ringing.
From July 2018, Tracey and her daughter Amy worked side-by-side, building a reputation for quality workmanship, practical solutions, and friendly service. What started as a small operation in a shed grew into a trusted local business servicing truck operators, farmers, businesses, boat owners, caravan enthusiasts, and the wider community.
In April 2025, Mrs Fixit entered a new chapter when Shelly and Ben Cook purchased the business. Having recently secured their workshop on Browning Street, the decision was made to relocate Mrs Fixit alongside their existing business, Cooky's Diesel Mechanic Repairs.
Today, Mrs Fixit continues to provide the same reliable service and quality craftsmanship the business was built on, while expanding its capabilities in industrial sewing, PVC fabric welding, custom fabrication, and repairs. Tracey remains part of the team, helping pass on her knowledge and experience to ensure the values and standards that built Mrs Fixit continue for years to come.
